The building behind the Black Church with the address Curtea Honterus 3 in
Brasov is one of three buildings of a Romanian school. Above the entrance is the
folliwing chronogram:
hIC doCti atqve bonI DoCeant
nonqve eXeat VllVs qvi doctvs non
est avt iMpivs et malvs avdit
This calculates to 1822, which is the year, in which the construction
of the building started. One year later the building was finished. It's
interesting that lots of the letters that represent Roman numerals are not
bigger than the others. Above the chronogram is another Latin inscription
saying "Non scholae sed vitae", which means "Not for school but for life",
but it doesn't belong to the chronogram.
