FRENCHTOWN
NEIGHBORHOOD
The Frenchtown neighborhood of Saint Charles owes its name and its most distinctive architecture to early French-Canadian settlers. The neighborhood has been the home of Jean Baptiste Pointe Du Sable, founder of Chicago who died here in 1818; Mother Rose Philippine Duchesne, founder of the first American chapter of the Academy of the Sacred Heart, and of the American Car and Foundry, a major contributor to American rail car design and manufacturing.

History of Mark:
"Historic Frenchtown is located just north of Historic Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri. It encompasses 26 blocks of unique architecture including shops, restaurants and homes. It was founded by the French in 1769 and became a National Trust Historic District in 1991, being one of 4 historic districts in St. Charles. Residents and business owners, along with the Frenchtown Historic Association, are continuing to work hard to revitalize the area. Antique lovers will want to carefully explore Frenchtown because there are about 20 shops that carry unique pieces from many historical periods, including Victorian, Depression, 1904 World's Fair and others. Frenchtown also has one of the largest selections of vintage architectural products in the United States!" ~ About St. Louis
