This goods freight van was built between 1915 and 1922 and was designed to be the last van on freight lines. It had some comfort for the guard. It did have a toilet and heater for comfort in winter. Built before communication between driver and guard was easy, it would have been a lonely life for the Guard.
These carriages became obsolete when a flashing light was placed on the rear of the train in place of the Guards Van.
This example was in operation until the 1980's.
