While wandering through Meidling cemetery in Wien, I noticed a grave of Josef, Rosa, and Othmar Saverschel. Rosa was born in 1908 and passed away 101 years later in 2009. Unfortunately, I could not find any information about her on the Internet.
Here are some events she has witnessed::
1. 1908: The Tunguska event, a massive and mysterious explosion in Siberia, is thought to have been caused by an air burst from an asteroid1.
2. 1910s: World War I, the first “total war” dominated this decade1.
3. 1920s: The women’s suffrage movement achieved a major victory with women getting the vote in 19201.
4. 1930s: The Great Depression hit the world hard and the Nazis came to power in Germany1.
5. 1940s: World War II, sparked by the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany in 19391.
6. 1950s: The Cold War, a period of geopolitical tension between the Soviet Union and the United States and their respective allies.
7. 1960s: The Civil Rights Movement in the United States aimed to end racial segregation and discrimination.
8. 1970s: The Vietnam War, a long, costly armed conflict that pitted the communist regime of North Vietnam and its southern allies, known as the Viet Cong, against South Vietnam and its principal ally, the United States.
9. 1980s: The fall of the Berlin Wall symbolized the end of the Cold War.
10. 2000s: The September 11 attacks in 2001 led to major global changes, including wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
