A cute sculpture of four children and three animals is located in the courtyard of the Waco City Hall. The children represent the four major ethnic and cultural groups of Waco's population.
The good dog is laying next to the boy's right left, resting his head on the boy's thigh. The boy's right hand is on top of the dog's head, petting him. On the boy's left leg, held by his left hand, is a turtle, who is looking up at him. The dog does not seem to be bothered by the turtle at all.
Text on plaque:
"We were born not to share in hate but in love."
Sophocles
Text on second plaque:
Friendship is for all Seasons
Sculptor: Eugenie Kamrath Mygdal
This sculpture is dedicated to the idea that a community of citizens thrives and is most able to accomplish its goals when the spirit of friendship pervades its daily life.
Children are used as the main subject of the sculpture because of their attitudes of fun, happiness, curiosity and innocence. They also represent the four major ethnic and cultural groups of Waco's population.
The animals in the grouping are important reminders that human existence is a shared reality.
The lamb, together with the boy holding him represents the farming and ranching industries that helped make Waco a prominent central Texas city.
Skipper the dog symbolizes faithfulness and watchfulness.
The turtle symbolizes the idea of eternity.
