"NAME: Bab al-Gudur. Gate of the Seven Floors
CHRONOLOGY: 14th century
HIGHLIGHTS: The monumentality, decoration and structural complexity of the door, together with a marked symbolic meaning, with which the sultans intended to express their capacity and greatness.
On the southern flank of the wall, which closes and protects the Alhambra, is the Gate of the Seven Floors or Bab al-Gudur, built in its current configuration probably around the middle of the 14th century, during the time of Yusuf I, on another earlier, smaller. Before it there is an artillery bastion, independent but integrated into the door after the Christian conquest. It is the closest to the Medina and must have had a certain ceremonial character because, according to the chronicles, jousts and military parades took place in front of it. It has the characteristic curved layout, a defensive element that reinforces it as it forces potential attackers to make one or more breaks before accessing the interior.
In 2004, the Board of Trustees of the Alhamabra and Generalife undertook the complete cleaning and reintegration of the Tower's bastion, the presentation of which is now offered for the admiration and
enjoyment of visitors.
