From the Smithsonian website, "One of at least seven sculptures, cast from everyday objects, placed by the artist around the city in 1981, while she was a Seattle Arts Commission artist. The open book is Lucy Lippard's "Changing: Essays in Art Criticism. The book is open to pages 28 and 29, where the author discusses how art and the criteria for judging it changes over time.
