Koh-i-Noor is one of the most iconic factories in Czech Republic, producing a vast array of stationery but originally famous by the quality of its pencils.

For most people around the world Koh-i-Noor is the name of one of the largest diamonds in the world, found in India around 1740. But for a random Czech person there is only one meaning for Koh-i-Noor: the famous factory producing stationery since ever.
In fact Koh-i-Noor Hardtmuth was founded in what is now Ceske Budejovice (also the cradle of Budweiser beer) in 1790. Of course by then there wasn't such thing as Czech Republic or even Czechoslovakia. It was just the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
In Prague one will find one of the most important factories of Koh-i-Noor Hardtmuth, located in the neighborhood of Vrsovice. The factory it is still active but trusting the looks from outside, in the need of some renovation. Note the old style letters.
