Dit beeld van Vera van Hasselt werd geschonken aan de Vierdaagse-organisatie ter gelegenheid van het vijftigjarig bestaan van de Wandelvierdaagse in 1966. In brons zijn een jongeman en vrouw hand in hand wandelend weergegeven. De vrouw draagt een bos bloemen, kenmerkend voor alle wandelaars die de eindstreep van deze vierdaagse wandeltocht hebben gehaald.

Het 1.90 meter hoge ensemble staat niet op een sokkel maar op een platte bronzen plaat. Daarmee staan de jongen en het meisje op de zelfde hoogte als de toeschouwers; ze zijn als het ware één van ons.

Dit Vierdaagsemonument is geplaatst aan de noordzijde van het Julianapark, tegeover de Wedren waar al jaren de start van dit internationale wandelevenement plaatsvindt. In het Julianapark staan twee andere objecten die een relatiehebben met de Vierdaagse. Achter het beeld van deze twee wandelaars staat de Breunese bank. J.N. Breunese is van 1922 tot 1963 de voorzitter en marsleider van de Nijmeegse Vierdaagse geweest. Verder staat aan deze zijde van het park een wandelmonument dat werd aangeboden door Japanse wandelaars.
