"La Iglesia de San Torcuato se encuentra cerca de la Plaza de los Corregidores y del Ayuntamiento, a pocos minutos del Arco de San Torcuato, de la Alcazaba y del Convento de la Concepción, en pleno centro monumental de la localidad de Guadix, provincia de Granada.
Perteneció originalmente al que fuera Colegio de San Torcuato de los Jesuitas, creado en 1599 bajo los auspicios del obispo Juan de Fonseca y el apoyo de importantes familias locales. Su fundación coincide con la llegada a Guadix de los restos de San Torcuato (primer obispo y evangelizador de esta Comarca), cuya causa y devoción apoyaron decididamente, al igual que la de otros mártires como San Fandila y Santa Luparia. El Colegio gozaría de un gran prodigio social y amplia repercusión intelectual hasta la expulsión de los jesuitas en 1767.
La Iglesia de San Torcuato se inició entre 1615 y 1622, inaugurándose provisionalmente, a mediados del siglo XVII, cuando solamente estaba construida la cabecera y un tramo de la nave. A la postre quedaría como templo definitivo. En la fachada principal campea el escudo borbónico, colocado en 1768, al instalarse aquí el Hospital Real, y en el lateral se encuentra una portada de ladrillos, ahora cegado con apalastrado toscas pirámides.
En el interior de la Iglesia de San Torcuato, destaca el elevado brucero, con pilastras y cúpula sobre pechinas. Unos balcones habilitados sobre las capillas para asistir los colegiales al culto otorgan a este espacio un marcado carácter escenográfico, muy del gusto de la cultura Barroca. Los modestos adornos que deciden la cúpula son de principios del XVIII, al igual que dos de los retablos, fuera de San Ignacio (hoy de la Virgen del Carmen) y el mayor, este último recompuesto con las piezas del antiguo retablo de San Francisco Javier".

"The Church of San Torcuato is located near the Plaza de los Corregidors and the Town Hall, a few minutes from the Arco de San Torcuato, the Alcazaba and the Convento de la Concepción, in the heart of the monumental center of the town of Guadix, province of Granada.
It originally belonged to what was the Colegio de San Torcuato de los Jesuitas, created in 1599 under the auspices of Bishop Juan de Fonseca and the support of important local families. Its foundation coincides with the arrival in Guadix of the remains of San Torcuato (first bishop and evangelizer of this Region), whose cause and devotion they decidedly supported, as well as that of other martyrs such as San Fandila and Santa Luparia. The College would enjoy great social prodigy and wide intellectual impact until the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767.
The Church of San Torcuato was begun between 1615 and 1622, provisionally inaugurated in the mid-17th century, when only the chancel and a section of the nave were built. In the end it would remain as a definitive temple. On the main façade there is the Bourbon shield, placed in 1768, when the Royal Hospital was installed here, and on the side there is a brick doorway, now covered with rough paneled pyramids.
Inside the Church of San Torcuato, the high brucero stands out, with pilasters and a dome on pendentives. Some balconies set up above the chapels for schoolchildren to attend worship give this space a marked scenographic character, very much in keeping with Baroque culture. The modest decorations that define the dome are from the beginning of the 18th century, as are two of the altarpieces, outside of San Ignacio (today of the Virgen del Carmen) and the largest, the latter recomposed with the pieces of the old altarpiece of San Francisco Javier ".
