7. The GOVERNOR'S MANSION (private), 1718 E. Kanawha Blvd., is a red brick two-story house of post-Colonial design, across Duffy Street from the west lawn of the Capitol. The main entrance, approached by a flight of red brick steps, is under a high portico with with fluted Corinthian column. The entrance arch frames a delicate fanlight above the door.
The mansion, designed by Walter F. Martens, was completed in 1925 and was first occupied by Governor Ephraim F. Morgan, who moved his family into the house one week before the expiration of his term of office. -West Virginia, A Guide to the Mountain State 1941
