This memorial to the 1st Marine Division United States Marine Corps is located on the Capitol grounds at 1900 Kanawha Blvd E, Charleston, WV 25305. It consists of a plaque affixed to the north wall at the base of the West Virginia History Museum. It was placed in 1996 by West Virginia Chapter 1st Marine Division Association.
The 1st Marine Division (1st MARDIV) is a Marine division of the United States Marine Corps headquartered at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. It is the ground combat element of the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF).
It is the oldest and largest active duty division in the United States Marine Corps, representing a combat-ready force of 22,000 personnel. It is one of three active duty divisions in the Marine Corps today and is a multi-role, expeditionary ground combat force. It is nicknamed "The Old Breed".

 Description of Memorial: It consists of a plaque affixed to the north wall at the base of the West Virginia History Museum. It is the customary dark brown placard with gold colored border and lettering. I found it while exploring the grounds of the West Virginia State Capitol Complex.
