This replica of Calgary's first town hall (1885-1911) was built for Heritage Park Historical Village in 2000. It is the center for visitor services in the village.
The original town hall was built in 1885, at the corner of 7 Avenue South and 2 Street East (Macleod Trail). That is directly in front of where the 1911 sandstone city hall now stands.
The original town hall was built for $1,694 and opened in September 1885. It was a two-storey wooden structure. In addition to housing the town council and town clerk, at various times it also held the police department, jail cells, courtroom, pound, market, fire brigade, and even a school. It was torn down in 1911 once the sandstone city hall was completed, because it had become dilapidated.
