The construction of a three sided and roofed bandshell has recently been completed. The dedication of the $250,000 project was held on September 12, 2023. The new facility replaces a deteriorating raised platform.
Located in the Valley View County Park at 301 Valley View Blvd. Altoona, PA.
"Valley View Park dedicates amphitheater band shell. Local officials Tuesday dedicated a $249,000, three-sided band shell for the amphitheater at Blair County’s Valley View Park, replacing a deteriorated performance deck there.
The band shell is suggestive of a modern church interior with its curved, laminated beams of treated lumber, which support a roof and walls of tongue-and-groove, three-quarter inch planks.
Workers from John Claar Excavating assembled the band shell from a kit manufactured by Recreation Resource USA, according to Joe Keller of Keller Engineers, which provided engineering services for the project.
The shell is equipped with lights, installed by Stelco, which will allow for night time events.
The site also has water service now.
The site is handicap accessible, Keller said.
There is seating provided by a stepped series of railroad ties.
The venue can be rented for weddings and other events put on by churches, nonprofits and other organizations.
There are generally a few concerts per year held in the amphitheater.
Project donors were Keller Engineers, Burgmeier Hauling, New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. and Ward Transport & Logistics.
McKissick-Kasun Architects provided architectural services."
