Orient Point Light, a.k.a. The Coffee Pot, is a sparkplug lighthouse in the Plum Gut of Long Island Sound was built as an aid to navigation through these treacherous waters. Construction began in October 1898 and was completed on November 10, 1899. The lighthouse is built on a reef and with additional riprap added. The base is a cast iron caisson and the tower is made up of cast iron plated over a brick lining.
The black conical tower has a white band in the center. It is 52' high. The lantern on to give it a height of 64 feet. The original lens was upgraded to a fourth order lens in 1900 and later a fifth order Fresnel lens. In 1958 the lighthouse was automated and in 1988 the lens was replaced by an optical lens with a range of 17 nautical miles. The light station was also equipped with a siren and a fog signal.
