According to town records, the land that the church sits on was purchased by the Fall River diocese in 1957.
Originally Our Lady of Fatima Church, the church was built in the mid 1960's.
The parish merged with the parish of St. Michael, Ocean Grove Ave. in the early 2000's and became St. Francis of Assisi.
The parish them became part of another restructuring in 2020 and joined with St. Dominic's to become the Mount Hope Catholic Community.
At the rear of the parking lot for the church is the St. Francis Prayer Garden. The Garden was created by Luke DeFarias in 2014 as part of his Eagle Scout project.
