"La alcaldesa de Motril, Luisa García Chamorro junto a su homóloga de la ELA de Carchuna Calahonda, Conchi Abarca, han inaugurado dos figuras que representan a una mujer y a una niña, obra del escultor Venancio Sánchez, a través de las cuales quieren rendir homenaje a los hombres y mujeres del campo, donde la agricultura ha sido y es, la principal fuente de riqueza del anejo motrileño.
“Como hemos defendido siempre, nuestro sector primario, nuestra agricultura, forma parte de nuestras raíces más profundas y sigue siendo la pieza fundamental sobre la que se sustentan miles de familias, no solo de Carchuna y Calahonda, sino de toda nuestra comarca. Hoy inauguramos este monumento, obra de nuestro querido Venancio Sánchez, un reconocimiento más que justo y acertado al igual que lo fue la escultura de nuestros pescadores en honor a nuestras agricultoras y nuestros agricultores”, se expresó Conchi Abarca presidenta de la ELA.
