This war memorial lies within a garden square in front of the town hall in the centre of Inverurie, a town some sixteen miles north-west of the city of Aberdeen in north-east Scotland. Unveiled on September 20th 1921, it features a life-size kilted Gordon Highlander standing 'at ease' with rifle on a stepped base of rough hewn granite. The main face of the memorial faces southwards, and features a carved wreath with crossed rifle and sabre behind. The inscription on this face reads:
'IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF INVERURIE AND DISTRICT, WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR, 1914-1918
"AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM"
AND IN THOSE WHO DIED IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939-1945'
On the three remaining faces are 164 names, with rank and unit in black lettering
