At the confluence of the Ohio and Kanawha rivers, Tu-Endie-Wei State Park protects the Point Pleasant battlefield, site of a bloody conflict fought Oct. 10, 1774, between native warriors and Virginia militia. Meaning "the place between two waters" in the Wyandotte tongue, Tu-Endie-Wei features a collection of monuments that commemorate the battle and other historical persons and events, including memorials for Shawnee chieftan Cornstalk, who led the native force in the battle, and "Mad" Anne Bailey, who fought the Indians across the frontier. A park museum is open daily May through October. At the center of the park stands an 84-foot obelisk that honors the Virginian troops.- Tu-Endie-Wei
