Monument is a copper bolt in the stone foundation of the old Napanee Courthouse. Installed around 1908 by the newly formed Geodetic Survey of Canada.
In 1906 "The Astronomy Branch begins precise levelling work in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Benchmark number 1 was installed in the stonework of the old Post Office (now the library). Levelling work proceeded westerly along the Canadian Pacific Railway to Kemptville and Prescott then along the Grand Trunk Railway" source: (visit link)

It is interesting that Benchmark 149 was installed here at the courthouse while Benchmark 150 was installe d at the Napanee Railway Station (visit link) while Benchmark 150A was installed some 8 years later on the Napanee Post Office (visit link)
