"El tio Pep es un personaje popular valenciano protagonista de la canción del mismo nombre, tal vez una de las más famosas y versionadas en todo el País Valenciano, pero que también aparece en muchas otras canciones, populares o no.
Al igual que la Sierra Mariola esta canción procede de la comarca del Comtat y se ha hecho muy popular entre toda la gente de la zona. Prueba del especial afecto del pueblo de Muro a este personaje es la estatua conmemorativa de esta figura y de esta canción.
Pero el Tio Pep fue a Muro a comprar una tartana i un burro, lo que hace pensar que el personaje se desplazó al municiopio para visitar la Fireta de Sant Antoni, de 300 años de antigüedad, siendo su origen un mercado donde se realizaban transacciones de ganado.

A principios de 2002 Muro rindió homenaje al popular "Tio Pep" con la colocación de un monumento a la entrada de la población, en la avenida Valencia.
