The man at the helm is a sculpture of a sailor looking out to sea. The sculpture is made of bronze and placed on a granite plinth.
The sculpture was made by the artist Emil Cedercreutz in 1936.
It is set up to pay tribute to the men from Aland who have lost their lives at sea and is located at the Aland Maritime Museum.
