This pillar is situated on the summit of Mailer Hill, also referred to as Kirkton Hill, a 182 metre height on the high ground that lies to the south of the city of Perth. The hill lies on the opposite side of the M90 from the city and is prominent due to numerous antenna that litters the summit area. The pillar is in good condition and is an excellent viewpoint with extensive views in all directions except to the east.
STEEPNESS: Manageable gradients.
TERRAIN: Easy grassland and paths.
ACCESSIBILITY: Easily reachable from St Magdalene's Hill on the southern edge of Perth, less than a mile away. A longer route with less paths comes up from the north-west from the B9112.
NAVIGATION: A signposted route leads from the car parking area at St Magdalene's Hill, heading south past an antenna, before crossing the motorway by a footbridge, then along the edge of a wood before the final climb up the hill where the pillar lies just beyond the most westerly antenna.
DANGER: None except possible livestock on the hill.
