The small villages of Strathtay and Grandtully are situated on both sides of the River Tay in Perthshire in the geographical centre of the Scottish mainland. The war memorial commemorating the fallen from the communities can be found on the northern (Strathtay) side of the bridge over the river, and stands at a junction of two minor roads.
The memorial was unveiled in 1921 in the presence of the Duke of Atholl, and is a small granite obelisk that sits on a base of loose stones. The memorial was repaired in 2008 after a number of road vehicle accidents.
A plaque on the base contains the following inscription (Grandtully is misspelt):
'THE MEN OF STRATHTAY & GRANTULLY WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR'
