The Perkins - Tryon High School has had the Demon mascot since 1928. The correct High School building built in 1951 is well known as the "Home of the Demons."
Although many attempts, the most recent in 1996, have been made to change the mascot due to its devilish nature or assumed satanic references it has been part of the school for 95 years. The school faculty, students, alumni, parents and even the school board who voted 5 - 0 in favor of keeping the demon are all proud of their Demon Heritage. The marching band has even joined in with the "demon theme" calling itself the Midnight Regiment.
