A well-maintained Forest Service trail can be used to reach the top of Black Mountain and the lookout. I recommend that 2WD vehicles park near N44 44.625 W107 23.878; high clearance 4WD vehicles should be able to make it to the official trailhead at N44 44.285 W107 23.270. From the upper trailhead, it is about a 1.80 round-trip hike to the summit and back. The fire lookout was built in the 1930s, but is no longer staffed by Forest Service employees.
Height of Look-Out Tower in feet: 9,489.00

Opening times and fees: Access is permitted 24/7, year round; no fees are required to visit the lookout.
