While riddled with a myriad of bullet holes and missing some key components here and there, this John Deere 95 combine retains its signature green-and-yellow coloration and stands apart from the rest of the rusted farming and oilfield detritus that is strewn around it. The combine sits amidst a fairly wooded and overgrown area just to the north of 182nd Street. I was driving around on a hot Kansas July day looking for opportunities to photograph Cowley County's locally famous stone arch bridges when I came across this machine and grabbed a few pictures. The combine can easily be viewed and photographed without ever leaving the dirt road.
Over 39,000 John Deere 95 combines were manufactured between 1957 and 1969; when introduced, it was the largest self-propelled combine on Earth.
