"The stories about paranormal phenomena in the faculties of Law and Philosophy and Letters are well known. They have even starred in television specials and are part of mystery tourist routes. But there is another space in the capital, one of the first buildings that functioned in the city in a similar way to a hospital, where strange appearances have also been recorded : the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions , on Torrijos street.
According to José Manuel Morales Gajete in his book "Enigmas y misterio de Córdoba", this center was also known as the "hospital for the drowned" , because at that time it was common for many young people to die swept away by the current while trying to cross the Guadalquivir to I swim.
"At the end of the 17th century it functioned as an insane asylum, until the Cardenal Salazar Acute Hospital was built at the beginning of the 18th century , and general care for the city's patients was transferred to this new center," the book states. Then, the San Sebastián Hospital became a cradle house or "foundling house".
Until 1961 it was collecting the children of single mothers who abandoned their newborns . In 1980 it was converted into a Palace of Congresses and "the workers at the time say that, apparently, dozens of skeletons of children were found during this remodeling ," Morales points out.
Currently, as the author of "Enigmas and mystery of Córdoba" points out, there are many workers who have witnessed paranormal phenomena within the four walls of this building. "An administrator claims to have seen how a two-meter-high metal filing cabinet moved by itself , without anyone touching it." An emaciated-looking woman, clad in an antique nightgown , has also been seen walking strangely through the cellars."
