The Salmar Classic Theatre was built in 1949 to raise money for a community indoor ice rink.Although the front lobby is a conventional box, the theatre itself is a large corrugated metal Quonset hut. The mural at the back of the theatres faces onto a large public parking lot. The mural plays with the similarity between the round metal Quonset and a metal film reel; a strip of “film” even pokes out from the roof.
The Salmar Classic Theatre is still community-owned and operated, and hosts both films and live events. The Salmar Community Association (
