"Legend has it that when Cabo San Lucas was a sparsely populated place, a ship arrived with yellow fever patients. Days before they had been in La Paz, where they were denied entry. When this ship arrived at the Cabo San Lucas dock, its inhabitants, noticing the paleness of the people who were in the bow, also prohibited them from entering.
It was a hot day. From inside the boat came an elderly woman who, with her walk, showed how sick she was. She was carrying a child in her arms and the only thing that the old lady, and the crew of this ship, asked of those present at the dock, was a little water and food. They immediately brought them food and water, but instead of sending it to them by boat, they threw it into the sea and then burst into mocking laughter.
Legend has it that this provoked the wrath of the crew of this ship, who were witches and also seers. The woman cursed all generations of those present on the pier:
"All those who have laughed at us will die a horrible death." And I curse this port! I declare that one day the sea will fall over him and he will claim the terrible treatment we have received.
After these chilling words, the ship left.
They narrate that Mr. Thomas Ritchie arrived at that moment and, seeing that the ship was leaving, asked what was the matter. They told him what had happened and he immediately sent two people he trusted to bring the ship back, since he could provide them with what they needed. However, when the boat approached the ship, they refused to return, insisting on the curse that would fall on them.
Although this appears in the notes and logs of some families that later came to live in Todos Santos and La Paz, it is not known for sure if this event actually occurred. However, the omens of a tragic end for the port have been present for years."
