The Cittadella is the most important historical fortress in Gozo and is built very strategically in the center of the island of Gozo.
The current fortress can be dated back to around the year 1200 and consists of several residences, a cathedral, a court and also a prison.
The prison was in use from the 16th century until 1962. You can visit the prison and see the many dates and names engraved in the walls.
In front of the old prison is this Pillory. Probably a copy of an original model, since you can try it out. And there are many tourists who want that.
