(Excerpts from Centenarians of Oklahoma Biography)
A native of Bonita, Texas, Carolyn is one of three girls born into the family of Senter and Teresa (Bentley) Camp. Her grandfather, Walter Bentley, came to Tishomingo before statehood to start an agency and the first 4H Club. She and her family have lived in Love County, Stillwater and Bristow - all in Oklahoma. She also lived in San Antonio, Texas during World War II. She remembers her trip as a child to the nation's capitol thinking it was like a "fairy castle at night". She holds a Master's Degree in teaching from Oklahoma A&M (OSU) and taught in Bristow until her retirement in 1970. She once took her high school students to England to study history where she had discovered a distant cousin still living there. The 40 years that she taught English were her favorite and most memorable times.
On July 31, 1932, she exchanged wedding vows with Arthur Morgan Foster, a banker. The wedding took place in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They were blessed with sixty-six years of marriage, three children 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She and her husband were recognized as the only husband/wife president of the Bristow School Board.
Carolyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church and has served as a Sunday School Teacher. Her favorite hymn is "Blessed Be The Tie That Binds". Her hobbies include genealogy, history, and reading. She was a member of the Daughters of the Mayflower, American Revolution and Confederacy.
Her favorite holidays were the 4th of July and Christmas where there were large family gatherings.
She attributes her long life to keeping a positive attitude, purposeful living, strong Christian faith, and having a wonderful husband. As to why she lived to be 100, she replied simply "I didn't die". Carolyn left us with these words of wisdom "have a satisfying profession, hobby and family. Be involved with a church and its family".
