Sculptor Pauli Suominen gifted in 1999 a few pieces of sculpture to the Comsewogue Public Library. One of them is the Lion. This piece greets everyone who enters the Library.
Pauli Suominen, a Vietnam veteran, was a carpenter by trade, but his passion is as a self-taught artist. He uses scraps of metal, pieces of wood and stone to create abstract sculptures, that are seen throughout the library property and across the country.
There are eight pieces of sculpture placed all around the library grounds, Charlotte's Web, Tiger, Gridlock Apple, Self Portrait, Ms. Lotta Scales, American Flag and Wind in the Willows.
