The Kadan Town Hall, with its adjacent white tower, is a Gothic building located in the Kadan Monument Reserve on Mírové námestí (Peace Square). The first written mention of the town hall dates back to the mid-14th century, but the construction of the actual town hall tower took place in the early 16th century. The tower measures a total of 53.75 meters and is unique among town hall towers in Bohemia and Moravia. The entire complex of adjacent buildings is now home to the Kadan Municipal Office, the Mayor's Office of Kadan, and the Josef Liesler Gallery.
The Town Hall Tower is among the monuments that still serve the same purpose for which they were built many centuries ago. The town hall was established sometime after the mid-14th century on the upper floor of the town market at the corner of the square and the later Svatých Street. By the beginning of the 16th century, a representative tower was built on the corner of the building, which guarded the entrance to the staircase leading to the administrative spaces. From the tower's walkway, one could oversee the events in the entire town, its fortifications, and the surrounding area.
The Town Hall Tower in Kadan measures a total of 53.75 meters and is the tallest building in Kadan. It consists of 5 floors, which are connected by a right-hand spiral staircase with a total of 120 steps. The construction of the town hall tower dates back to the beginning of the 16th century in its current Late Gothic form, although there is a written mention of a town hall chapel as early as 1401. The presence of a chapel within the tower indicates that Kadan was a prosperous trading town in the Middle Ages and could afford to build such a magnificent and atypical town hall tower for its time. An interesting feature is that the town hall tower does not have any roof tiles; it is entirely made of stone from the square level all the way to the top.
