"The watercourse Schoonebeker Diep has its source in Lower Saxony, Germany, southeast of Twist. The Schoonebeker Diep is connected to the Overijsselse Vecht via the Coevorden-Piccardie Canal and the Coevorden-Vecht Canal.
Along the Schoonebeker Diep is an air watch tower from the Cold War, built at the time to detect enemy aircraft flying under radar range. It stands near the Schoonebeek - Emlichheim border crossing, along the N853. It is Air Guard Tower 7Z3 - Schoonebeek (visit link) This is a honeycomb tower more than 12 meters high. The tower was built in 1954 and is a provincial monument."
