The parish church of St. Oswald is a hall building with a choir closed on three sides and a ridge turret with a pointed helmet.

The oldest parts of today's church building date back to 1123 – 1143, with the construction of the thick outer walls of the nave. The nave of the church has a paneled ceiling with square panels. The sacristy with its half-timbered gable was added in the second half of the 15th century. A Gothic sandstone sacrament niche is embedded in the north wall of the sacristy. The church's square ridge turret with an octagonal pointed helmet is late Gothic in design. In 1661 the nave was extended to the west. The walls of the chancel were renovated in 1958 and a new paneled ceiling was put in. In 1960 the ornamental painting that the church had received in the late 19th century was removed as part of an interior restoration. From 1985 to 1987 the church was extensively renovated, where part of the roof trusses and the peaked helmet of the roof turret were replaced.

In front of the pulpit on the left wall is a painting of St. Blaise. This work of art does not belong to the original furnishings of the church but used to be the altarpiece of the parish church in Diepolz. Opposite St. Blaise on the right wall of the nave there has been a figure of Maria von La Salette, which was carved by Johann Petz from Munich and donated by Maria Anna Hirnbein from Knottenried. The nearby rectory in Knottenried keeps plaques on which pilgrims have testified that their prayers have been answered. Knottenried is still a destination for pilgrimages. A baroque cross hanging between the stained-glass arched windows dates from the first half of the 18th century.

Around 1700 the two side altars dedicated to Saint Joseph and the Virgin Mary were created. They are each provided with four marbled columns. The two altarpieces were purchased in 1820. The high altar, which dates from the 17th century, also has four columns. The altarpiece shows the crucifixion of Jesus. It is flanked by the figures of St. Oswald with his attribute, the raven and St. Ulrich with the fish. The pulpit dates from the second half of the 18th century. The baptismal font and the choir stalls were made in 1820 by the Missner carpenter Sebastian Petrich.

The organ comes from GF Steinmeyer & Co. from Oettingen and was built in 1891 as opus 435.

The celebration altar facing the people dates from the 20th century. It was created by Theo Weh from Reute using older parts; its front wall was originally part of the coffered ceiling of an old farmhouse in Reute. The sedilia and the paschal candlestick with the tree of lifewere also created by same artist.

Saint Oswald has been named as the patron saint of the parish church in Knottenried in 1672. The fact that St. Oswald was chosen as patron for the church in Knottenried is probably related to the patronage of the Benedictine monastery in Weingarten. The saint is the second patron of the Weingarten monastery; from here the Oswald cult spread to southern Germany.
