This labyrinth is located at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in the courtyard near the main entrance at 5333 McAuley Dr, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. It is an approximately 20 foot diameter circle made of grey and beige brick pavers to guide the path. There is a marker at the entrance which reads:
WELCOME TO THE ONCOLOGY COURTYARD LABYRINTH
The labyrinth is an ancient tool for walking meditation and prayer. The pattern installed in the Oncology Courtyard Garden is a replica of the labyrinth built in 1220 into the floor of the cathedral in Chartres, France. As it has for centuries, walking the labyrinth can help bring solace and strength, heal wounds, clarify understanding of a situation, engage creativity or illuminate your relationship with God.
The labyrinth has but a single path leading to the center and back out again. To begin, find the opening in the circle and start to walk, following all the twists and turns at your own pace. Try to quiet your mind and your heart as you walk. When you reach the center, pause for as long as you like with an open mind and heart; listen to your thoughts, your heart and your spirit. When you are ready, leave the center and retrace your steps, reflecting on what you have learned and will carry with you.
It's all right to walk even if others are using the labyrinth. Please walk in silence, quietly passing others as needed and letting them pass you. Keep in mind that each person's experience of the labyrinth is unique.
We wish you peace and well-being.
