This small U.S. Post Office serves Monterey and the surrounding area. The building is constructed of stone, and has a handicapped ramp and entrance on the south side of the building. According to the cornerstone, the building was erected by the Lions Club in 1957.

Monterey (population two hundred or so) has had a Post Office since 1851, and also has a lending library. The town is named after the Battle of Monterey, which occurred during the Mexican-American War. In this conflict a force of United States Regulars, Volunteers and Texas Rangers under the command of General Zachary Taylor defeated the Northern Mexican Army under General Pedro de Ampudia. The hard-fought battle inflicted heavy casualties on both sides, and resulted in a two-month armistice in which the Mexicans yielded control of the area in exchange for an orderly evacuation. Taylor was critisized for allowing the Mexicans to retreat with their weapons, but that didn't hinder his election to the U.S. Presidency some years later.

To post a log to an existing U.S. Post Office waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the post office in the background if that is possible.

A description of your Post Office is required, such as when it was built, history, outstanding or unique features, population of the city or town, just do a quick internet search and find an interesting bit of information about the city or town and add it to the long description, to make it more interesting. Even just adding in the population of the area can give others an idea of how many people this post office serves. This description should be at least three sentences.

If your Post Office has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
Including your gps device in the picture is not necessary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval, as long as all other details of your log are acceptable.
