Tombstone is no longer readable. The SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) recently added a new marker in front of his original tombstone to identify his plot and keep his memory fresh.

"Patriot Etienne Bernard defended Fort San Carlos in St. Louis, Spanish Louisiana in 1780 as a member of the militia. the Fort was under attack from British and Native American forces. Although, the defenders were heavily outnumbered, it was successfully defended, ending the British objective of controlling the Mississippi River.
"Etienne Bernard was also a founding member of All Saints Catholic Church.
