The parish of Straloch is situated in highland Perthshire in the north-eastern part of the county at the eastern end of Glen Brerachan. The A924 road runs through this glen to eventually reach Pitlochry, and passes this memorial in its remote location on the north side of the road.

The memorial was originally unveiled in October 1919 at the parish church in the hamlet of Straloch. It is a wheel cross of Aberdeen granite, on a tapering shaft, above a tapering stone pedestal on a stone base. The inscription and nine names are in black lettering.

When the church closed and became a private residence, the memorial was moved three miles to the west near the farm of Dalnavaid, where it sits on a grassand heather hillock a few yards north of the road, surrounded by a wooden fence.
