Lychgate in front of Árbær Open Air Museum Church, in Reykjavik
This lychgate is all made of wood, including the gate. The gate is painted in green. The roof has a cross and is covered with grass.
From the sign:
"The chuch in the Árbær Museum is of a type common throughout the country until 1850s, a turf-and-stone church with a timber interior. Originally built in 1842 at Silfrastaðir in north Iceland, it was dismantled in 1896 when a new church was built there. The timbers of the church were reused to build a baðstofa (communal living space) in the farmhouse. After the baðstofa was dismantled in 1959 the timbers were brought to Reykjavík and used in the reconstruction of the church in 1960-61. The church is consecrated and is used in ceremonies."
Year: 1850s
