The National Nordic Museum is an amazing place - there is something here for everyone interested in local history, ancient history, cultural history of various Nordic peoples and how Nordic immigrants adapted to, assimilated into, and added to the culture of the United States.
It is well worth a visit to see genuine artifacts (ancient and modern) from Nordic peoples and explore the variety of cultures within each specific Nordic Country - including the varied Indigenous cultures.
This museum gives a comprehensive and focused look at the unique histories and different cultures of the Nordic countries of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Norway. The museum was careful to highlight the differences between these distinct cultures of each country. It’s more than Vikings and IKEA here :)
It makes perfect sense that this museum is located in Ballard, where so many Nordic immigrants made their homes and fortunes in the fishing ports of this area.
The museum is open from 10am-5pm Tuesday through Sunday, and is closed on Monday. Tickets are $20 per person, but there are student, member, and other discounts available for those who qualify. This museum is well worth a visit - it is very well done. We learned so much about different Nordic cultures and history today!
