"It was built after the Spanish Civil War , around 1940, as a gift from the dictator Francisco Franco to the Muslim soldiers who assisted him, known as the Moorish Guard , so that they would have a place of prayer. It is considered one of the first modern mosques.

In 1950, its religious use changed to that of a library, although it continued to specialize in the Islamic religion, whose collection was nourished, in part, with donations made by the Delegation of Culture of the High Commissioner of Spain in Morocco . After the Spanish Transition and the return of democracy, the Association of Muslims in Córdoba asked the municipal government, then led by the mayor Julio Anguita , to give them the building to recover religious worship. The request was accepted and it opened its doors in 1992 again as a mosque."
