[FIN] Caravelle III oli ensimmäinen suihkulentokone Suomessa ja sen ylelliset sisätilat tekivät siitä kuuluisan konetyypin. Tämä restauroitu lentokone oli alunperin SAS lentoyhtiön käytössä aina vuoteen 1974 saakka. Se kuljetettiin Suomeen ja suuri joukko vapaaehtoisia restauroi sen upeaan kuntoon. Caravelle värit ovat Finnairin 40-vuotisjuhlamaalaus vuodelta 1963. Sen sisältä puuttuu vielä matkustamon penkit.
Caravelle tunnuksella OH-LEA on tunnettu nimellä "sinilintu" ja vaikka tämä lentokone ei oikeasti ole ollut Finnair lentoyhtiön laivastossa koskaan, on tästä vanhasta SAS:n Caravellesta saatu ulkoisesti tehtyä aivan samanlainen.
Finnairilla oli alunperin kaksi Caravelle 1A versiota, jotka myöhemmin muutettiin III versioksi. Pitkään eivät nekään olleet käytössä kun siirryttiin Super Caravelle versioon. Tämän SAS Caravelle III:n nimi on ollut alunperin Sven Viking. Moottoreina on Rolls-Royce Avon Mk.527(B). Maksimilentomatka noin 1800 km. Koneissa oli 16 ensimmäisen luokan ja 57 turistiluokan paikkaa.
Caravelle sijoitettiin kesäkuussa 2023 tälle tontille Turun Lentoaseman terminaalin viereen. Se ei valitettavasti näy hyvin itse terminaaliin. Parkkipaikalta on kävelytie terminaalin ulkorappusten kautta.
[EN] Caravelle III was the first jet plane in Finland and its luxurious interior made it a famous aircraft type. This restored aircraft was originally used by SAS until 1974. It was transported to Finland and a large group of volunteers restored it to its wonderful condition. The colors of the Caravelle are Finnair's 40th anniversary painting from 1963. Inside, the cabin seats are still missing.
Caravelle with the code OH-LEA is known as "bluebird" and although this aircraft has never actually been in the Finnair airline's fleet, this old SAS Caravelle is externally made exactly the same.
Finnair originally had two Caravelle 1A versions, which were later changed to version III. They weren't in use for a long time when they switched to the Super Caravelle version. This SAS Caravelle III was originally named Sven Viking. The engines are Rolls-Royce Avon Mk.527(B). Maximum flight distance about 1800 km. The planes had 16 first class and 57 economy class seats.
Caravelle was placed in June 2023 on this lot next to the Turku Airport terminal. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up well in the terminal itself. There is a walkway from the parking lot via the terminal's exterior stairs.
