Iets naast de ingang van het museum De Hooge Boezem in Haastrecht, over de geschiedenis van het watermanagement en het gemaal, staat een paal met een aantal NAP (Normaal Amsterdams Peil) maten. Deze paal is natuurlijk bedoeld voor educatie. Je kan er enkele stormvloedpeilen op aflezen (2,25 +NAP als de stormvloedkering bij Krimpen aan den IJssel gesloten wordt en 3 m +NAP als de stormvloedkering bij Rotterdam gesloten wordt) maar ook het peil van de noordelijke IJsseldijk bij Haastrecht (2,7 m +NAP) en het peil van de Lekdijk te Schoonhoven (maar liefst 5,4 m +NAP!). Zo wordt het mooi inzichtelijk gemaakt hoe hoog het water kan stijgen!

Just next to the entrance to the museum De Hooge Boezem in Haastrecht, about the history of water management and the pumping station, is a pole with a number of NAP (Normal Amsterdam Level) measurements. This pole is of course intended for education. You can read off some storm surge levels (2.25 +NAP if the storm surge barrier at Krimpen aan den IJssel is closed and 3 m +NAP if the storm surge barrier closes at Rotterdam) but also the level of the northern IJsseldijk near Haastrecht (2.7 m +NAP) and the level of the Lekdijk in Schoonhoven (no less than 5.4 m +NAP!). This provides a nice insight into how high the water can rise!
