The Gateway is located on the site of the former Mott Estate. Established in 1941. The first performances were under the most primitive conditions in a barn that still smelled like a barn but the playhouse became very popular with Bellport residents and surrounding communities. In 1962 the Gateway opened a new 500 seat theater adjacent to the barn. The new theater is air conditioning and retains the barn-like facade.
