The Butler Metro Park is on the south edge of the Colorado River on the south edge of Austin's downtown business district. The labyrinth is easily approached from, and easily seen from, the intersection of Barton Springs Road and Dawson Road. It is also described as being in the: "Town Lake Metro Park: Pedestrian Walkway #2 in Austin. This labyrinth is near the west corner of the Palmer Events Center and is in the NE corner of the Barton Spring Road and Dawson Road intersection."

This is a large professionally installed labyrinth that has a 52 foot diameter. It is made mainly of red colored bricks for the pathway and with gray colored bricks for the edges and the turn indicators. It is essentially flat, with just enough mounding to have rain water run off without puddling on or in the parts of the labyrinth. The outer edge of this well-made labyrinth is a regular concrete sidewalk that encircles the labyrinth and connects to walkways to and from other attractions in the park.

There is ample room in the path's width to walk easily. Since the red pathway stone is consistently level with the gray edge stone, there is no fear of tripping or stumbling on uneven surfaces. The path follows the traditional Charter Cathedral path pattern of taking those walking the path thorough all four quadrants of the labyrinth before entering the center circle. In this center circle there are no borders or embellishments except for a large, flat, concrete circle with these three words embossed into the concrete: RELEASE - RECEIVE - RETURN. These three words appropriately summarize how to benefit the most from walking a labyrinth.

The pathway to the labyrinth's center is designed to complement the concept that walking a labyrinth allows you to meditate and release your tensions and worries on the way in. At the center, you can leave those frustrations there and can return on the same path back with a more relaxed attitude of hope and contentment.
