Placed alongside the street also named for him, this statue of Edgar Martínez presides over the T-junction of Edgar Martínez Drive S and Occidental Ave. S just outside "T-Mobile Park" (ehh, it'll always be the Safe) on the first-base side. Martínez' #11 jersey was officially retired in 2017, he was inducted into the Mariners' Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019, and the statue honoring him was unveiled in a public ceremony on August 11, 2021.
This life-sized bronzed sculpture on a stone plinth was created and cast by Chicago area artist Lou Cella, and it depicts the moment Martínez hit "The Double" to beat the Yankees in the 11th inning of Game 5 of the 1995 American League Division Series. It was a thing of beauty and it probably saved pro baseball in Seattle.
If you're already headed to a Mariners game, it's as good a time as any to pick up a waymark of Papi. Otherwise, the cheapest place to park nearby is probably Henry's Lot, at 1524 1st Ave. S. From there it's a short walk north to the statue.
