The display board with an electronic counting display has been installed by Transport For Greater Manchester (TFGM) to try and encourage cycle usage in Manchester in general and in this area the south side of the city centre.
The cycle lane at the side of a busy road aims to give a safe route for cyclists to use and is in the area of a variety of Manchester University buildings.
At the top of the display is the number of cycles that have passed on the current day, which on the day the photos was taken was quite low at only 3.
Below this is the total number of cycles that have passed in the current year, which as of the 2nd May 2023 is around 100,000.
