Mercado Municipal

O Mercado Municipal situa-se no centro histórico de Santa Maria da Feira, construído entre 1953 e 1959, é um monumento classificado de “interesse público” pelo IGESPAR.
É uma das primeiras obras do arquiteto Fernando Távora, um pilar da arquitetura moderna portuguesa. Como afirma o arquiteto Eduardo Souto de Moura, "Távora é o pai da escola portuense e bisavô da Europa. É uma figura histórica e universal".
O mercado municipal integra elementos locais e tradicionais na arquitetura moderna, fragmentados em quatro corpos de diferentes consistências volumétricas numa plataforma expressiva.
Segundo Fernando Távora, este não é um local de trocas comerciais e de bens (coisas) essenciais, mas sim um local de integração de ideias, é o local onde as pessoas se reúnem.
E é novamente com este propósito (reunir pessoas), ponto de encontro e integrador de ideias que a cidade vive neste mercado municipal: palco perfeito para iniciativas culturais inovadoras que trazem vida ao mercado e o devolvem à cidade e aos seus habitantes."

The Municipal Market is located in the historic center of Santa Maria da Feira, built between 1953 and 1959, it is a monument classified as “public interest” by IGESPAR.
It is one of the first works by architect Fernando Távora, a pillar of modern Portuguese architecture. As the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura states, "Távora is the father of the Porto school and the great-grandfather of Europe. He is a historical and universal figure".
The municipal market integrates local and traditional elements into modern architecture, fragmented into four bodies of different volumetric consistency on an expressive platform.
